Registration and Orientation

Welcome to the Faculty of Law at 㽶Ƶ.

In anticipation of your upcoming graduate studies, please read the information below.


International students are encouraged to consult the Pre-Arrival Guide created by International Student Services. They should also register for a .

The information below outlines the registration process step-by-step. If you have any questions or concerns, please grad.law [at] mcgill.ca (email us).

1. Complete your registration as a new graduate student

Registration for the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 academic year for new graduate students opens on as of July 2, 2024 (9:00 a.m. EDT) on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Official registration period: July 2, 2024 to August 14, 2024; otherwise a late registration fee will be charged.
  • Register for both the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 terms.
  • Ensure to add the Registration Confirmation Course “REGN RCGR” via Minerva for the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 terms.

Instructions

  1. Log into
  2. Click on Student > Registration Menu > Search Class Schedule and Add Course Sections
  3. Select a term (Fall 2024)
  4. Select REGN - Registration for Subject
  5. Click Course Search at bottom of page
  6. Find RCGR - Confirm Grad Reg
  7. Click on View Sections
  8. Check off the box for CRN 155
  9. Follow instructions (Repeat this process for Winter 2025, choosing CRN 176)
  10. To find specific courses, search for the correct subject code under Subject (CMPL, LAWG, PUB2, BUS2, ASPL, etc.)

Register for all compulsory courses listed on your course selection form (see below). As well, register for any 500 or 600 level elective courses you wish to take in the Faculty of Law. (Refer to the courses and exam schedules page below.)

Please also review the information posted on the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) website regarding registration and orientation. All incoming graduate students must complete a mandatory on-line Academic Integrity Tutorial on Minerva as well as It Takes All of Us: Creating a Campus Community Free of Sexual Violence, a mandatory online learning program that strives to increase awareness of sexual violence by addressing topics like consent, bystander intervention, and supporting survivors.

Please review the following documents in order to assist you with registration and course selection:

  • Registration Guide 2024-2025, which sets out the policies and procedures for the graduate programs in law
  • 2024-2025 courses and exam schedules (on Law's Student Affairs Office website), which list all 500 and 600 level courses offered in the Faculty of Law. Please note that the Course Calendar has not yet been updated. Please refer to the timetables as well as the information found on Minerva.

Important note: Graduate students are eligible to register for 500-level courses or higher.

2. Orientation activities

Each year, the Faculty of Law and the Graduate Law Students Association (GLSA) welcome new students and help them get settled in.

We will be in touch over the coming weeks with information concerning welcome and orientation activities, which we anticipate will start during the summer and continue into the fall.

㽶Ƶ also provides information and support to welcome graduate students from around the world.
