The Indigenous Health Professions Program was launched in 2017 in response to the numerous health discrepancies of Indigenous peoples and inspired by the calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission ().Ìý
We are very excited about this long overdue program.ÌýCurrently there are very few Indigenous health care professionals in Canada and Quebec is no exception.ÌýWe originally focused on training more Indigenous physicians but, after consultation with our Indigenous partners, we realized we must have a broader focus and make significant efforts to train a wide range of Indigenous health professionals.ÌýOur Indigenous partners also made it clear to us that most health care professionals know very little about Indigenous peoples and they felt it was essential that we address this at McGill.ÌýWe therefore took these two mandates to heart in the creation of this program and we continue to work with our Indigenous partners to achieve these goals.Ìý
Please look through our website to find out about our new and interesting programs, see our videos highlighting some of our students and come back frequently for updates.Ìý
