Academic Casuals Unionization
Following the petition filed by AGSEM on April 30, 2024, to certify the group of employees occupying a position classified as ‘’Academic Casuals’’, the Tribunal administratif du Travail, the Quebec government body that oversees unionization, handed down a decision on August 13, 2024, confirming that several Academic Casuals positions were now unionized and represented by AGSEM. The bargaining unit is defined as follows:

On Tuesday April 30th 2024, the Association of Graduate Students Employed at McGill (AGSEM) filed the attached petition for the certification of academic support workers employed by McGill. The academic support workers in the attached list are targeted by this unionization drive.

AMPFA files a petition for certification
On Friday, April 5, 2024, Quebec's Tribunal administratif du travail -- the government body that oversees unionization -- notified McGill that the Association of McGill Professors of the Faculty of Arts (AMPFA) has filed a petition for certification.
MCLIU Course Lecturers and Instructors Approve New Collective Agreement
The MCLIU Course Lecturers and Instructors Union held its Special General Assembly on April 5, 2024 to present the contents of the agreement in principle. We are pleased to announce that members voted in favor of the proposed new collective agreement. The current agreement expired on August 31, 2022; the new agreement will end on August 31, 2027.

We are pleased to announce that, McGill and MCLIU Course Lecturers and Instructors reached an agreement in principle on March 25th.
The parties’ negotiation committees have agreed to recommend the contents of the agreement to their respective constituents and to keep the details of the agreement confidential until the Union has had an opportunity to share them with its members.

Retraite Quebec ends their participation in the reciprocal transfer agreement

On June 19, 2023, the Pension Administration Committee of the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Pension Plan was advised that Retraite Québec will be ending their participation in the reciprocal transfer agreement. This agreement allowed for pension transfers between Québec universities and eligible public-sector pension plans administered by Retraite Québec.
MCLIU (Course Lecturers and Instructors) and McGill
On November 2, 2022, McGill and MCLIU exchanged their respective proposals for the renewal of the agreement which expired on August 31, 2022. The parties subsequently met on a regular basis and progressed on the non-monetary clauses. On March 30, 2023, the Union tabled its monetary demands and on April 27, employer representatives presented a comprehensive proposal on the non-monetary elements as well as McGill’s monetary proposal.
