Negotiation update: MCLIU (Course Lecturers/Instructors)

Published: 15 October 2018

The parties met on Sept. 12, 14, 26 and October 3. They continued discussing the clause on the allocation of courses.

On Sept. 12, the employer raised the issue of the availability of courses to graduate students, a topic that will require further discussions.

As agreed by the parties on Sept. 14, the employer presented a working document that reiterated the objectives of the two parties and suggested possible solutions.

On Oct. 3, the union presented data illustrating its viewpoint on how the employer has been using posting exemptions. The positions of the parties on this matter remain far apart. Further discussions will be needed in order to arrive at an agreement on this topic. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 10.

Negotiations for the second collective agreement between the employer and MCLIU began in June 2018. The parties have agreed to meet twice a week throughout the fall term.

This update is meant to inform the community about ongoing negotiations and has been validated by the union.
