Biography:

Prof Stephanie Loeb is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ. Prior to joining McGill, she was a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford and received her PhD from Yale University with a focus on the environmental applications of light-activated and fluorescent nanomaterials. Prof Loeb's research interests encompass materials science and environmental engineering, with particular expertise in the areas of nanotechnology, photonics, and environmental virology. Her recent research has aimed to characterize how sunlight inactivates challenging viruses in the environment. She is also interested in the fabrication and design of novel light-activated nanomaterials for sustainable water disinfection, and developing improved methods for detecting and quantifying pathogens in the environment.
She finds teaching and mentorship to be the most rewarding part of her academic position, and hopes to help the next generation of talented young researchers.
