College of Graduate Mentorship

The College of Graduate Mentorship supports upper-year PhD students and postdocs in their transition into the job market.

The program consists of two components through which you will have the opportunity to:

  1. Learn from the job-search experience of a faculty mentor with whom you will meet 2 times per semester. Mentorship pairings will begin in September 2024.
  2. Expand your knowledge of the career paths available to McGill PhDs through the TRaCE Talks, monthly panel discussions with McGill alumni working in diverse careers. The TRaCE Talks are open to all members of the McGill community.Ìý

Through the Faculty Mentor Pairing program, eligible students will be paired with a faculty mentor as they explore the different career paths available to them, learn to recognize and present the many valuable skills they have acquired over the course of their studies, and develop strategies to stay organized, motivated, and happy as they finish their degrees and seek future opportunities.

Applications to participate as a mentee or mentor have now closed for the 2024-2025 academic year. Stay tuned for next year's call for applications.Ìý

Faculty Mentor Pairings

A pairing with a McGill faculty mentor will give you the opportunity to expand your understanding of the academic job market, learn from your mentor’s unique perspective and experience, and establish new connections at McGill and beyond.

TRaCE Talks

Most McGill PhDs work in diverse careers beyond academia. Building on the insights of the project, the TRaCE Talks invite McGill alumni to share their experiences in non-academic careers in monthly panel discussions open to all members of the McGill community.
