Derek Bowie
Dr. Derek Bowie is a Professor of Pharmacology & Therapeutics and co-Director of the Cell Information Systems.
Dr. Bowie studies the biology of ion-channel families in the mammalian brain linked to neurodevelopmental disorders. This work has led to new insights into how brain cells communicate and potential strategies to treat autism and intellectual disability. Dr. Bowie earned his Ph.D. in the UK with postdoctoral training in France, Switzerland and the US where he held his first faculty position, joining McGill in 2002. He co-founded Nospharma, a therapeutics company developing treatments for rare genetic neurological disorders.
Mentorship is important to me because I have witnessed how it can positively impact the development and education of trainees and colleagues throughout their careers.
