Oral Health Sciences (PhD)

Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Oral Health Sciences offered by the Faculty of Dental Medicine & Oral Health Sciences is a research-intensive program that emphasizes challenging and forward-thinking learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in literature review, research design, and knowledge mobilization to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

Unique Program Features

  • The program fosters access to integrated care, community service and engagement. Students bridge fundamental, applied and translational research to dental practice using creative knowledge transfer;
  • Students receive a high level of technical support and interact extensively with professors, post-doctoral fellows, research associates, and research assistants;
  • Faculty members and researchers possess expertise in a variety of disciplines and methodologies including: biomaterials, biochemistry, mathematics, cellular biology, neuroscience, epidemiology, medical anthropology, clinical trials, educational research, and community participatory research. Additional areas of specialty include nanobiotechnology, public and population health, tissue engineering, mineralized tissue, extracellular matrix, disease model, implant, bone, Indigenous healthcare, cancer, skeletal biomechanics, bioimaging, medical informatics;
  • Faculty members receive more external research funding than any other Canadian dental school.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): applicant with a Masters degree:3.2 or higher; applicant with Bachelors, without a Masters degree:3.5 or higher
  • English-language proficiency
