Human Nutrition (PhD)

Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Human Nutrition offered by the School of Human Nutrition in the Faculty of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences is a research-intensive program that emphasizes specialized and innovative learning opportunities. The program’s objective is to equip students with skills in literature review, scientific communication, analytical thinking to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

Unique Program Features

  • Suitable for students with an MSc degree in Nutritional Sciences or related areas who wish to become independent researchers and/or leaders in the field of nutritional sciences;
  • Offers a stimulating research environment in which students can pursue a PhD degree from a wide variety of research themes owing to a great diversity of faculty research interests that provides opportunities in basic science, clinical research with our many hospital clinicians, as well as population health in Canada and abroad;
  • Graduates go on to pursue careers in academia, government or industry within Canada or internationally.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must be graduates of a university with recognized reputation and hold both a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. degree equivalent to McGill's in a subject closely related to the field they wish to pursue for graduate work.Ìý
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in Ï㽶ÊÓƵ's credit equivalency of 3.3/4.0 (high second class–upper division) during their bachelor's and master's degree programs.
  • English-language proficiency
