Students should inform themselves of the policies, procedures and deadlines related to graduation well before they expect to graduate.Â
Students registered in thesis programs are subject to different policies, procedures and deadlines than those in non-thesis programs.
- Thesis students are not required to apply for graduation. GPS applies for graduation on behalf of thesis students when they submit their initial thesis.Â
- Graduate students in all non-thesis programs (certificates, diplomas, Master's non-thesis) must apply to graduate by the appropriate deadline.
- Students in non-thesis programs who wish to graduate in a particular term but miss the appropriate application deadline must make a written request to their department for approval. The department will then submit the request to Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies Thesis Office.
Convocation ceremonies are held twice a year (normally in November and in May or June). In February of each year, there is no Convocation ceremony. However, GPS does grant degrees in February. Students who receive their degree in February attend spring convocation to receive their diplomas (normally held in May or June of that same year).
Additional information for students can be found on the Graduation and Convocation website.
