Eligibility
Applicants must be:
- For Master’s, PhD, Postdocs and Senior Undergraduates
- For travel to one of the eligible countries (priority is given to students collaborating with a Mitacs partner institution)
- Travel duration must be of 12-24 weeks
- For collaboration with an institution not partnered with Mitacs, the McGill supervisor must commit to a contribution of 2,000 CAD
- Trainees cannot travel to a country where they hold citizenship unless they also hold Canadian citizenship or are Canadian Permanent Residents.

How to Apply
- Download and complete the Intention to Apply Form.
- Submit the completed and signed form to GPS for pre-selection by the deadline, to this email address: fundingapplications.gps [at] mcgill.ca. The form must have the Faculty Associate Dean's signature.
- Pre-selected candidates will receive instructions and forms to continue their application to Mitacs directly. This will include the OSR checklist. The final decision is made by Mitacs.
- FRQ Scholarship holders that are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada must also submit the .

The program supports travel and research between Canadian universities and universities and institutions in certain countries. Please visit the for the list of countries and partners.
Supervisor and Contribution Requirements
- The supervisor must be a recognized faculty member at their institutions
- The supervisor must be eligible to host graduate students
- The McGill supervisor must commit to a contribution of 2,000 CAD for collaboration with an institution not partnered with Mitacs
- The contribution cannot come from the host supervisor (the supervisor external to McGill), the student, or out-of-pocket
- The contribution cannot come from Tri-Agency Funds or FRQ; department contributions or start-up funds are acceptable
- The deadline to transfer the funds are as follows:
- Deadline to transfer funds: First Call - May 1st . Second Call : September 15th, 2023. Third Call: January 5th.
After Pre-selectionÌý
Pre-selected students will not be able to submit the full application to Mitacs until the supervisor's contribution is received (if applicable). Pre-selected candidates receive Mitacs application package and instructions to complete and submit their applicationÌýby the deadline.ÌýPlease note that you must be approved by Mitacs to receive the award. GPS pre-selection is not theÌýfinal approval.

- The supervisor is responsible for completing and obtaining signatures on the OSR checklist
- The application will be reviewed only afterÌýsignatures from the Dean and ADR are provided on the OSR checklist

Quantum Special Offer
Are you interested in applying to GRA for a quantum project? You may be eligible for enhanced funding!
- $6,000 award to carry out a research project over 12 to 24 weeks
- $12,000 award to carry out a research project over 24 to 48 weeks
If a Mitacs is involved in the project:
- $9,000 award to carry out a research project over 12 to 24 weeks
- $15,000 award to carry out a research project over 24 to 48 weeks
