Departmental Support letter for Non-thesis programs

This template is meant for support letters for non-thesis programs. This letter should be submitted on Slate at the time of recommendation. You can download this letter here.

Writing reference letters

Professors are often asked by students to write reference letters for funding opportunities. Reference letters are critical to a fellowship or scholarship application, helping to distinguish an individual from a pack of outstanding applicants by highlighting unique strengths. Visit and share with professors this page: Writing effective reference letters for tips on how to set your student apart.

Writing research proposals

The Faculty and Staff section of the main GPS web page contains best practices on supervising student writing and helping students edit. In addition, fellowship applicants should be pointed towards the Tips for writing a great research proposal to help ensure their success.

Supporting Letter for immigration purposes

International Student Services has prepared many templates to help units whose students require support letters for immigration purposes (when applying for or renewing their CAQ/study permit, or for their Post-Graduation Work Permit application). These letters should be prepared on departmental letterhead and signed by the GPC or GPD. Please find templates here.
