Algeria's Partnership with The Ottawa Hospital on Innovative Radiation Therapy Techniques
Algeria’s Ministry of Public Health – recognizing the country’s need for greater access to advanced radiotherapy technology and techniques for cancer patients and the healthcare professionals that treat them – has invested heavily in radiation therapy solutions over the last few years. Annaba’s Centre Hospitalier Universitaire – Centre de Lutte Contre le Cancer (CHU-CLCC) was the first in the country to implementĚýa full complement of Elekta equipment, including a Versa HD™Ěýlinear accelerator (linac), two Elekta Infinity™Ěýlinacs with Agility™ĚýMLCs, MOSAIQ®ĚýOncology Information System and Monaco®Ěýtreatment planning system.
"These innovative techniques are new for us in Algeria [...]” say Lilia Naoun, MD, CHU-CLCC’s Head of Radiotherapy. “We needed clinical support to reassure ourselves that we would be delivering the highest quality treatments to our patients."Ěý
To accomplish this mission, CHU-CLCC needed to work with a partner center that not only the experience and expertise, but also one whose professionals could speak French.ĚýThe Ottawa Hospital team, among whom McGill Adjunct Professor Jean-Marc Bourque, emerged as the obvious choice.
