McGill Global Health Programs is delighted to invite the McGill community to a special book launch event featuring McGill Alumna, Dr. Maureen Mayhew (BSc’82, MDCM’86), who will share her remarkable journey through her experiences as a family doctor, clinical professor, and certified leadership coach. Dr. Mayhew's dedication spans over three decades, providing primary care and leading public health programs across Canada, Asia, and Africa.

Currently working with the BC Physician Health Program, Dr. Mayhew's life-changing mission with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders in Afghanistan in 2000 served as a catalyst for her commitment to supporting the Afghan people in rebuilding their healthcare system. With a focus on improving maternal and child health in remote settings, her transformative work has made a lasting impact on her personal mission to make a difference in healthcare.

Join us as Dr. Mayhew discusses her new memoir, "Hand on My Heart: A Canadian Doctor's Awakening in Afghanistan," offering compelling personal recollections encompassing moments of growth, disorientation, wonder, and joy.

Don't miss the chance to be inspired by Dr. Maureen Mayhew's extraordinary journey and the valuable insights shared in her captivating new memoir that delves into the importance of healthcare, cultural understanding, and the potential for positive change. Copies of Dr. Mayhew's memoir will be available for purchase at the event. Only card payments will be accepted.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵ is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous Peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. McGill honours, recognizes, and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which peoples of the world now gather. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
