A Message from the Chair: Bringing Our Two Worlds Together

Published: 1 March 2019

Dear friends and colleagues,

You have undoubtedly heard me repeat on many occasions that the Department is made up of two wonderful worlds: the world of clinical teaching, based mainly in our family medicine units and focused on the teaching and learning experience of students and residents; and the world of research and training in the Graduate Studies division, which now houses more than 100 Master’s and PhD students and post-doctoral fellows.

Both of these worlds were featured recently on Med e-News, the McGill Faculty of Medicine’s weekly e-newsletter. The two articles highlight the wonders of these two worlds, with and .

I want to take this moment to extend my regards to all of our faculty members, whether they are working in a clinical setting with residents and students or on research in our graduate programs. These articles are a testament to the excellence of the work of each of you.

Additionally, I would like to thank the Director of Research and Graduate Programs, Dr. Gillian Bartlett, and the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education, Dr. Marion Dove, for their consistent and strong leadership in helping us bridge those two worlds together.

Dr. Howard Bergman
Chair, Department of Family Medicine
