The Summer Session in Epidemiology and Biostatistics offers health professionals the opportunity to gain familiarity with the principles of epidemiology and biostatistics. It also offers graduate students andmedical residents from McGill, and graduate students from other Quebec and Canadian universities the opportunity to acquire academic credits and thereby accelerate course work during a summer term. Courses may also be taken for a Professional Interest Certificate.
The language of instruction is English, unless otherwise stated, and students are advised that fluency in English is essential to benefit from the courses offered. However, students may submit their course assignments and examinations in French.
McGill Students
Registration for McGill Graduate Students will begin mid-March,2025(exact date TBC). (Usually starts at 9:00 AM.)
Students from the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health
Students currently registered in the Department register directly on Minerva for May and June courses. Please note that permission of the instructors is required for the Pharmacoepidemiology courses. Instructors' email addresses appears with the course description in the CoursesپDz.
Students from Other Departments
Graduate students from other McGill departments wishing to take courses in our department must usually first obtain permission from the course instructor. Once granted they can access Minerva to complete the registration process.
Permission of Instructor
In almost all cases, permission of the instructor is required to register. Please contact the instructor with information on your academic background and reasons for wanting to take their course. Be sure to include your full name, student ID number, course title, and course number when emailing your request. Instructors' email addresses appears with the course description in the CoursesپDz.
Once the permission has been granted by the instructor please send a copy to gradadmin.eboh [at] mcgill.ca, it will then be entered in the system allowing you to register via MINERVA.
Course Additions/Withdrawals/Changes
Due to the intensive nature of these courses, the standard add/drop and withdrawal deadlines do not apply. It is the student's responsibility to verify the dates on Minerva under “Class Schedule and Add/Drop Course Sections” in the registration menu. Students will be charged full fees for courses not dropped within the Add/Drop period.

McGill Medical Residents
Registration for McGill Medical Residents will begin February 14, 2025.
Please follow these 4 steps:
- Discuss your particular needs with your Training ProgramDirector and decide on your course selection. Please note that 3 credits per 4 week period is considered a fair load, 6 credits a heavy load.
- Starting February 15 (9:00 AM), register on line for your courses at www.mcgill.ca/minerva/ within the deadline dates posted on Minerva.
- Consult Minerva a few weeks before the starting date of your course(s). For information on course outlines please see theCoursesپDz.
- Course Selection (to add or drop a course or to cancel your registration) requires written permission from your Training ProgramDirector, as well as submitting your changes on MINERVA. This will avoid the mention of ‘Fail ’on your university transcript.
If accessing Minerva for the first time, your PIN (Personal Identification Number) is your year, month and day of birth (example: 651203 if you were born on December 3, 1965).
Medical Residents can register for a maximum of 12 credits in total and are considered Special Students at the graduate level during this period. Students who have reached the limit of 12 credits are no longer eligible for Special Student status at the graduate level.
As a Medical Resident, you will receive academic credit for any courses taken during the summer. You are expected to attend all classes, complete all assignments, and take exams. The marks you receive will be entered on your permanent McGill Transcript Record. If you do not complete a course, you will get an automatic Incomplete ‘K ’or Fail ‘F ’. Successfully completed credits may be transferred to a degree program at McGill or another university.

Graduate students from other Québec universities wishing to take courses in our department must first obtain permission from the instructor. Please contact the instructor with information on your academic background and reasons for wanting to take their course. Be sure to include your full name, course title, and course number when emailing your request. Instructors' email addresses appears with the course description in the CoursesپDz.
Once the permission of the instructor has been obtained please send a copy to gradadmin.eboh [at] mcgill.ca. Students must then apply on-line on theweb page, they should also verify with their home department regarding approval procedures at their home university.
Registration requests will not be processed by the Department before mid-March, 2025, and no later than four weeks prior to the start of the course(s) they are applying for.

Students from the University of Toronto and UBC
Students from the University of Toronto and UBC must first obtain permission from the instructor before applying to register for one of our summer courses. Please contact the instructor with information on your academic background and reasons for wanting to take their course. Be sure to include your full name, course title, and course number when emailing your request. Instructors' email addresses appears with the course description in the Courses section.
Once permission of the instructor has been granted please send a copy to gradadmin.eboh [at] mcgill.ca. Students should then complete the Graduate Exchange Agreement formand submit it to their Home Institution for approval. Once the form has been signed by their Home Institution, students must submit it to gradadmin.eboh [at] mcgill.ca for processing at McGill.
Students may apply as of March 1, 2025, and no later than four weeks prior to the start of the course(s) they are applying for.
Please note that once you receive confirmation of your registration by McGill Enrolment Services you will be required to submit legal documents proving your citizenship/immigration status. You will also be required to complete a Quebec Permanent Code form. Please see Legal Documents for further details and access to the form. We ask that you do not submit these documents before having received your McGill ID number.

Professional Interest Students
Health professionals and others not seeking academic credits are considered for enrolment as Professional Interest Students in the Summer Session. Professional Interest Students are expected to participate fully in course work, including assignments and examinations. Students will be informed of the grade obtained, but it will not be officially recorded by the university and no formal university transcript will be issued. Students will receive a certificate of participation from the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health. Courses taken for Professional Interest cannot subsequently be applied to an academic program. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions.

The registration form will be available starting January 6, 2025. Once the permission of the instructor has been obtained, Professional Interest Students may register no later than two weeks prior to the start of the course(s) they are registering for.

Fees
The course fees are $1,400 CAD per credit (plus all applicable taxes).
Participants from low income and lower middle-income countries (LMIC), as identified by the , are eligible for a fee reduction. The cost for these participants is $250 per credit (plus applicable taxes). Please identify yourself as being a LMIC participant by checking the appropriate box on the application form. Reduced fees will be noted in the payment page once approved.
Refund / Cancellation Policy
Participants can request a full refund, minus a $100.00 CAD cancellation fee, up to one week prior to the start of the course(s) they are registered in. Professional Interest Students who register without first obtaining the permission of the instructor will be charged a $100.00 CAD cancellation fee if permission is not granted subsequently.
