Submissions are now closed.

We are pleased to announce the sixteenth edition of the Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering (SURE) program. We would also like to acknowledge the support that makes the SURE program possible, including funding from the Faculty of Engineering (Dean’s Office), professor cost-sharing contributions, NSERC-USRA awards, the Trottier Institute for Sustainability in Engineering and Design (TISED), ELATE (Enhancing Learning and Teaching in Engineering),ÌýMedtec Design and the support of many generous donors.

PROGRAM DETAILS

  • As faculty and donor funding are limited, the Faculty is only able to cost-share a certain number of projects. The Faculty may limit the number of positions awarded per supervisor.
  • SURE positions are full-time positions (expected participation between 35-40 hours per week) for the entire 16 weeks, i.e., SURE participants should not be registered for any summer courses. A vacation request may be accommodated if not in conflict with any SURE events and if the student will make up the missed time. Students’ research should be scheduled during reasonable working hours each week.

NSERC USRA Program:

  • NSERC USRA awards are assigned by the Faculty through the McGill Engineering Student Centre. All students who apply to SURE are considered for a NSERC USRA.
  • USRAs are assigned to eligible students (must be Canadian or Permanent Resident) based on CGPA.

Student eligibility requirements:

  • Minimum CGPA 3.0
  • Students must be U1 or above; U0 students can be recruited outside of the SURE program
  • Open to both McGill students (domestic & international) and non-McGill students (domestic & international)
  • International students need a work authorization.
  • Students must have a Canadian bank account.
  • Non-McGill students studying at another university who are accepted to the program will have to submit transcripts, and submit anÌý to ugrt-info.engineering [at] mcgill.ca
  • Non-McGill International students may need additional visas and other documentation; please consult the
