For complete pre-departure information, please consult McGill’s International Student Services website, where you can access the McGill Pre-Arrival Guide, which is updated yearly.
Steps for course registration
Please note that due to programming restrictions, Exchange, Visiting, & Special students will not be able to register for most courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering you are unable to register for courses via MINERVA and therefore manual administrative registration (by the faculty) will be required .
You MUST fill out the Request for Course Authorization form and either submit it via email exchange.engineering [at] mcgill.ca or at our front desk in the McGill Engineering Student Centre (MESC) FDA (Frank Dawson Adams Building) Room 22. This form can also be found on the front desk stand.
If you are submitting the form in person -The form should clearly indicate all required registration fields: Term, CRN of the course as indicated on the example of the form those fields can be found on MINERVA.
It is important that the student and their home advisor both sign the form. If the student is unable to obtain the home advisor signature then an email from the advisor sent to exchange.engineering [at] mcgill.ca with their permission of course selection will suffice.
Please note the following:
The home advisor is attesting to the fact that you have successfully satisfied all pre-requisite courses and is capable of completing the identified courses on the form.
The home advisor is not guaranteeing that a student will get into the specified courses.
After we have received all necessary information (the form along with student and Ìýhome advisor signature/email) Ìýwe will then notify the student if further permission from our instructors or other departments is required.
If you would like to drop a course you can do so via MINERVA without filling out a form.
We are only in charge of registering you in ENGINEERING ADMINISTERED COURSES, for all other courses like language courses or anything NON ENGINEERING; you will need to search for that specific faculty and ask them for permission and they will enroll you in those NON ENGINEERING courses.
IMPORTANT: After you have submitted your form to exchange.engineering [at] mcgill.ca your respective department will then communicate to you about which courses you can register for through MINERVA, McGill's online student interface. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that they have registered in the correct courses and have no conflicts.
