Remembering the victims of École Polytechnique

On December 6th, 1989, 14 women were murdered at École Polytechnique in Montreal. These women, most of whom were engineering students, lost their lives in a violent act of misogyny.

In their honour, and in an effort to provide opportunities for women in Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering has established the 1989 Polytechnique Memorial Scholarships thanks to the generous support of McGill alumnus, Ian Van Cortlandt McLachlin. We will also continue our commitment to combating gender-based violence and creating an environment of inclusion through initiatives and student groups such as Women in Engineering, Engineering Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Advancement (E-IDEA), and .
