Dean Venkatesh Named to the FRQ Scientific Committee
On November 5th, Quebec's Fonds de Recherche announced the composition of its three scientific advisory committees; one for each major research sector. Each committee is comprised of 10-15 members active in research, appointed by the FRQ, the majority of whom come from public research or higher education institutions, with at least one member from a college and one student representative. Committee members are appointed for a non-renewable term of one to three years. These committees serve to advise on research practices, promote interdisciplinarity collaboration, and advance ways to bridge the gap between science and society, among other high-level decision-making to further Quebec research standards and practices.
The FRC received more than 180 applications to its advisory committees. McGill Faculty of Education Dean, Vivek Venkatesh, was appointed to the Comité scientifique du secteur Société et culture (Scientific Committee for Society and Culture) and is the only McGill expert on this committee. Other McGill appointees to the FRQ committees were Assistant Professor, Natalia Gorelik (McGill Department of Diagnostic Radiology) and PhD student, Filip Milisav (Montreal Neurological Institute) who were appointed to the Comité scientifique du secteur Santé (Health Sector Scientific Committee).
