McGill alumnus Aaron Akerman (BCom’91; GCPA'93) has been appointed as the next Chief Financial Officer of Immersion Corporation, a leading developer of touch feedback technology based in California. Following a successful career in financial leadership, Akerman is looking forward to driving growth alongside a quality team.

Welcoming a new cohort of GCPA students
The first week of May saw the start of the GCPA program for a new incoming cohort of 54 students. An additional 60 students also returned to the program in further preparation for the Common Final Exam, which they will write in September 2019.

GCPA participants score top marks on CFE
Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting (GCPA) participants Liane Brick (BCom’17) and Michael Richardson have placed on the National Honour Roll for their results on the Common Final Examination (CFE), with Richardson earning a gold medal for placing 1st among the six Quebec students who made the list.
This marks the second consecutive year that a GCPA student wins the gold medal for Quebec.

2018 Lionel Pelham Kent Scholarship recipients
On June 12, theÌýGraduate Certificate in Professional Accounting (GCPA) programÌýawarded the Lionel Pelham Kent Scholarship to the following students: Sorana Gyorgy, Eleni Panaritis, Michael Richardson and Ghassen Sabri.
In the memory of Lionel Pelham Kent, CA, this scholarship was established in 1998 to recognize academic excellence and strong communication skills among students entering the final year of the GCPA program.

Desautels alumnus named to CFE National Honour Roll
Richard DespatieÌý(BCom’16) has been named to the National Honour Roll of the Common Final Exam (CFE). He is among the top-three writers in Ontario of the Common Final Exam.
Written in September, the CFE is a national three-day evaluation that assesses competencies including essential knowledge, professional judgment, ethics, and the ability to communicate.Ìý

Six Desautels graduate students awarded by the Fondation CPA
The Ordre des comptables professionels agréés du Québec is the province’s third-largest professional order, and covers accounting services across the public, business, education and non-profit sectors.
Through the Fondation CPA, the organization offers scholarships and awards at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The graduate awards have just been announced, and six of the 30-plus award recipients are students in the Desautels GCPA program.

GCPA students awarded with Lionel Pelhan Kent scholarship
On June 13, the GCPA program awarded the Lionel Pelham Kent Scholarship to students Matthew Minuk, Joelle Salzman, Matthew Schryver and Angelica Wen.
The Lionel Pelham Kent Scholarship was established in 1998 to recognise academic excellence and strong communication skills, and is open to students in the final year of the GCPA program. The winning team is chosen based on outstanding skills in written and oral communication as demonstrated in a case competition.
