EMBA alumnus appointed chancellor of the Université de Montréal
Congratulations to Frantz Saintellemy (EMBA’20) on his appointment to the role of chancellor at the Université de Montréal. A driven entrepreneur with a long track record of success, Saintellemy serves as president and chief operating officer for LeddarTech Inc., an artificial intelligence company on the forefront of developing assisted driving technology. He is also the founder of Groupe 3737, a centre that promotes diversity in innovation and entrepreneurship.
McGill joins national call to honour Indigenous peoples
In observation of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, Ď㽶ĘÓƵ hosted a full day of in-depth discussions, workshops, and performances, including a virtual storytelling session facilitated by the Desautels Faculty of Management. Each event was designed in collaboration with Indigenous peoples throughout Quebec.

Welcoming inaugural cohort of MMR program
On September 1, 2021, the first ever cohort in the Master of Management in Retailing (MMR) commenced with 31 students in total. Hailing from eight nations across the world and with eight languages spoken among them, this cohort features a diverse set of academic backgrounds. Our inaugural class holds degrees in economics, finance, business, engineering, marketing and communications, and retail management, from universities around the globe.

Professor Patricia Faison Hewlin and her husband, CEO of The Hewlin Group, Jay Hewlin, are working to carve out diverse, equitable, and inclusive spaces for success on Broadway. As they partner with hit Broadway shows, including Hamilton and Moulin Rouge!, they advocate for initiatives that go beyond diversity statements, pushing for a balance between policy change and personal development.
Endowed prize honours Richard G. Donovan
Professor Richard G. Donovan passed suddenly on August 3, 2019, but the legacy he left behind continues to this day. Through generous donor support, the $50,000 Richard G. Donovan Prize in Case Excellence is awarded to graduating students who have excelled in case competitions in their time at McGill. Now, Desautels is raising funds to endow the prize in order to support students for generations to come.
A call for hybrid work models
Research conducted by Professor Karl Moore features prominently in a new piece that advocates for a hybrid office environment. Recently, Professor Moore found that at least half of American employees who work remotely are working longer hours, and a majority of young professionals suffer from loneliness on a regular basis.
No substitute for face-to-face interaction
In an overview of MBA learning environments throughout the pandemic, La Presse surveys MBA directors and faculty members about their ingredients for success. While he doesn’t discount the value of online learning, John-Paul Ferguson, Academic Director of the MBA program at Desautels, maintains that the most impactful learning happens face-to-face, on-the-job.

C2 Montréal, a popular annual conference that brings together leaders at the intersection of commerce and creativity, will return in a virtual and in-person format from October 19-21.
This year’s theme will focus on the prefix “re” in keeping with the return and renewal of pre-pandemic social connection.
