Mono-SOS app is helping prevent howler monkey executions in Costa Rica
When howler monkeys swing from branch to branch in the canopy of Costa Rica’s forests, they sometimes encounter a deadly hazard: power lines. An app developed by McGill and Associate Professor Juan Camilo Serpa, who spearheads the Costa Rica Experiential Learning Course and Study Trip, is helping identify the hot spots where electrocutions occur.

McGill Desautels BCom Wins McCAIS Undergraduate Research Award 2024
Bachelor of Commerce student Nikki Tye is the recipient of the McGill Collaborative for AI & Society (McCAIS)’s Undergraduate Research Award (McURA) for Summer 2024. The $8,700 award, aimed at promoting interdisciplinary AI research in society, recognizes Nikki's project on "Protecting the Amazon Forest from Illegal Activity through Image Recognition and Operations Research: A Partnership with JungleKeepers and Peruvian Indigenous Communities."

Holiday grocery price freeze includes more products this year, but long-term affordability solutions needed
This year, Canada’s large grocery chains are freezing the price for a greater variety of items than usual before the holidays. While 10-15% more products are included in the freeze this year, the true test of affordability will come later. “How high will grocery prices be when the price freeze ends?” asks Professor Saibal Ray in an interview with CBC Radio’s As It Happens.
