The Vanishing Middle Class--And the Lasting Remedies
Prof. Reuven Brenner of the Desautels Faculty of Management discusses why there is a need for radical policy changes to restore the declining wealth in the U.S.:
While the U.S. still is the ultimate place to prosper economically, it risks falling behind if its taxes and regulations force its young "vital few" to seek greener pastures elsewhere, and large segments of its population continue to indulge in delusions that their entitlements can be sustained. Such delusions can be powerful, and they destroyed many a country in the past. Let's hope Washington seizes the brief window of opportunity and restores the conditions necessary to once again become a "startup nation"--which for a long time it so uniquely was.
