Scotiabank funds conference room, fellowships for business students

Published: 5 April 2012

The Desautels Faculty of Management at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ is pleased to announce that Scotiabank has contributed a total of $1 million to sponsor a new, fully-equipped conference room in the Faculty and to establish fellowships for outstanding MBA students.

Scotiabank executives and students in the Desautels Honours in Investment Management (HIM) program participated last week in the inauguration of the Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets Conference Room on the recently renovated second floor of the Bronfman Building, which houses the Faculty. The bank is providing $500,000 over 10 years to sponsor the room, designed primarily for the HIM program - an innovative undergraduate program combining rigorous academic groundwork with real-world experience in investment management.

The conference-room contribution is in addition to $500,000 that the bank has committed for fellowships to support McGill MBA students. The Scotiabank Fellowship awards - valued at up to $5,000 each - are based on academic excellence, with preference given to students from Latin America and the Caribbean and those wanting to study on exchange in those regions.

"Scotiabank's generous contributions will help us further develop our exceptional program for undergraduate honours students - and will help us continue to draw outstanding MBA students from Latin America and the Caribbean," said Desautels Dean Peter Todd.

"The Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets Conference Room represents our commitment to supporting the communities in which Scotiabank employees live and work, both in Canada and abroad, through our global philanthropic program, Scotiabank Bright Future," said Matt Giffen, Managing Director, Head of Global Energy Solutions, Co-Head of Global Infrastructure Finance, Scotiabank.

"In an increasingly competitive global marketplace, we believe it is important to support programs that provide students with excellence in education in order to compete on the national and international stage."
