New Bronfman Second Floor Unveiled

Published: 20 January 2012

On Wednesday, January 18ththe second floor of the Bronfman Building was unveiled through speeches by faculty and student representatives at the semi-formal ceremony in the new facilities. "Welcome Bronfman students to your new space." Such was the assuring message displayed on monitors to students, faculty, and guests in the recently renovated second floor of the Bronfman building.

The unveiling began with words of welcome from Dean of the Desautels Faculty of Management, Peter Todd, who emphasized the overall goal to provide students a better "living and learning environment." The Dean also expressed his gratitude to Desjardins and Scotia Bank, which donated generous sums of $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. "These gifts were instrumental in moving the project forward," stated Todd.

The planning committee, consisting of faculty members and student representatives, decided to move the former library collection to McLennan Library. Instead, the second floor was revamped and a new learning space was designed to meet the multi-purpose needs of undergraduate students and professors.

The renovation process lasted approximately one year. The floor now boasts technically equipped classrooms, discussion rooms, study space and research labs. The buzz is centered on the Scotia Capital Conference Room and the Alphonse Desjardins Trading Room, which are furnished with dual monitors computers, Bloomberg software, and televisions streaming market news throughout the day.

"The idea to renovate the second floor started several years ago and was originally a joint project between the library that used to occupy most of this floor and the faculty," explained Christine Boynton, Director of Administration.
