Learning From Women's Soccer - Leveraging the Value of Competition for Success

20 NCAA championships in 28 years. A winning percentage of over 93 percent of the team's games. 20 National Players of the Year. These are just some of the numbers that describe the success of the University of North Carolina women's soccer program over onthe past several decades. Head Coach Anson Dorrance's success is due in part to great players and support staff but also to a style of coaching that maximizes the potential for high-performing, competitive individuals to gel into championship teams.  How does he create an atmosphere where players must be competitive in everything they do (in training, in practice, and in the classroom), yet are able to come together so well as a team on the field? Competition and teamwork, this is a powerful but often elusive combination...
