Generous gift from Lester J. Fernandes will endow research Chair in Business Ethics

Published: 29 April 2024

When it comes to ethical behaviour in business, there are many shades of grey. Parsing them requires a strong ethical compass, and the Laidley Centre for Business Ethics and Equity, founded in 2022 with a gift from David Laidley (BComā€™67), is helping the next generation of business leaders do exactly that. Thanks to a generous gift from Lester J. Fernandes (MBAā€™82), a new research Chair in Business Ethics endowment will help expand the Laidley Centreā€™s footprint. ā€œOld sayings like ā€˜greed is goodā€™ and ā€˜the end justifies the meansā€™ are just that ā€“ old sayings,ā€ says Fernandes. ā€œIt is important that the professional who occupies the Chair has the will, integrity, and experience to investigate issues that are not always straightforward or transparent.ā€
