FLU COULD HOBBLE U.S. ECONOMY

Published: 4 September 2009

Lisa Van Dusen, in the Winnipeg Sun: "The intersection this week of the fourth anniversary of hurricane Katrina and the White House push on national swine flu preparedness is, to use this summer's term, a "teachable moment" in health and economic convergence. The notion that health issues and economic issues are interconnected is something we understand intuitively from our own lives, especially in a place where health care is both a fiscal crisis and a personal financial anxiety... I spent a year recently immersed in health and economic convergence working for Laurette Dubé, a consulting client and the Desautels Faculty of Management at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ professor who actually coined the term in setting up the McGill World Platform for Health and Economic Convergence. The MWP is a combination real and virtual think-tank and research centre whose premise is so smart, Dubé is already working with the Grameen Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation before the platform is actually launched in November."
