Desautels Alumnus and Chef, Cameron Stauch, Inspires a Feature Film

The new film Cooking with Stella, which opens Friday in Ottawa, begins with a caption proclaiming: "Based on a story that is true ... almost." Ottawa chef Cameron Stauch wants you to know that what we're talking about here is "a pretty big 'almost.' " He should know. Michael, the film's protagonist played by Canadian actor Don McKellar, is based loosely on him and the three and a half years that he and his family spent in India. While the 36-year-old Kitchener native was always interested in cooking and felt that it came easily to him, he attended Ï㽶ÊÓƵ to obtain a commerce degree, with a focus on environmental studies and international development. (While at McGill, he began working in Montreal restaurants and later attended the Stratford Chefs School.)
