Crowdshipping could be answer to delivery delays as e-commerce soars

Published: 13 January 2021

The sharp rise in e-commerce during the COVID-19 pandemic has strained the ability of Canada Post and private couriers alike to keep up with demand.

According to Professor Wei Qi, crowdshipping provides a solution. In a crowdshipping system, businesses crowdsource drivers who are not typically professional couriers to make last-mile deliveries. The concept of crowdshipping is still in its infancy, but if it catches on, it could significantly alleviate the pressure on traditional courier services to adapt to rapid e-commerce growth overnight.
