1st ANNUAL MIS CASE CHALLENGE

Published: 1 May 2009

On March 14th 2009 McGill hosted the 1st annual MIS Case Challenge. The McGill Management Information Systems Association (MISA) of the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management and the Decision Sciences Student Association (DSSA) of the Concordia John Molson School of Business (JMSB) co-chaired the new event with great success.

This one-day case competition brought together each university’s brightest Information Systems (IS) students and challenged them in two rounds of case presentations. Each school sent three teams of four students. After a 3 hour case crack, each school’s teams faced off against each other and a winner was selected from each division. The winner from Desautels faced off against the winner from JMSB in the finals. The finals consisted of a 20 minute presentation and a 10 minute question and answer period.

The panel consisted of judges from Deloitte, Hewlett Packard, Optimus, Intuitive Technical Services, and Novatek International. The winning team from Desautels consisted of Charles Gauvin, Ramez Halazun, Paras Khare, and Zaid Naveed. The overall winner was from JMSB and consisted of Tom Hovarth, Adam Skoreyko, James Feith, and Bulat Sharifzyanov.

The event was part of the newly revived MIS Association that has been in hiatus for the past several years. The success and interest in the Information Technology field has sparked new interest and coordination from both schools for future events. The MIS Case Challenge is expected to be held again next year.
