You can apply to the English Language and Culture Program online. It’s quick, simple and secure.
Ensure you have a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) for the non-refundable application fee of $101.38 ($104.42 as of Winter 2025).
The fee must be paid online to submit your application.
How to Apply by Proxy
If you are using a proxy to apply, you must complete, sign, and submit this English Language and Culture Registration Proxy Form . You should apply online and then have the proxy holder submit all supporting documents and fees at Client Services.
Please use the above-linked document to have your letter released to a third party. The form can be submitted by email or fax at (514) 398-2650.
NOTE: Students using a proxy are bound by contract with Ï㽶ÊÓƵ upon their application.

Fall 2024 semester |

Winter 2025 semester |
International applicants: November 5, 2024 Canadian and Permanent Resident applicants: December 10, 2024 |
Each semester is divided into two six-week sessions for these programs. Admission into the intensive Certificate of Proficiency programs is only possible for the first session of a semester. |
Missed the Deadline?
It is possible to register as an independent (special) student and attend courses. However, you will not be eligible for the Certificate of Proficiency until you apply to the program and are formally admitted. Once you are admitted, your completed courses will count towards the certificate.
To register for a course as an independent (special) student you need to:
- Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, or
- An International student with valid immigration status for the entire 6 – week session
- Provide payment in full for the session before your register
You can then apply for formal admission to the Certificate Program for the start of a new semester.

Application Status
Within two (2) business days after submitting your online application, you will receive by email a confirmation and further instructions on how to complete your application.
You will be also be provided with a McGill ID number and a 6-character PIN (Personal Identification Number) so you can sign into Minerva, McGill’s online student information system, to track the status of your application and upload supporting documents.
Processing Time
- Processing of applications can take up to 10 business days, provided the following are submitted:
- All supporting documents
- Payment of the tuition fee for one session for English.
- Payment for compulsory International Health Insurance (for International students only)
- Admission letters are sent by email to the address on your application. Note: The letter will include information about the writing of the Placement Test.
