The McGill Libraries are updating our homepage design to coincide with a rebranding project. We are excited to showcase our new homepage that has been designed with a user-centered approach in mind. The new homepage will be launching on Wednesday, August 7!
With a recent update to the , the 鈥淎uthor/Creator鈥� search filter now sorts on the record count of the search query. Clicking 鈥淪how More 鈱勨�� will expand the filter and sort authors alphabetically, with Latin script listed first.

The has switched over to a more user-friendly interface to help users navigate archival descriptions. The fresh look will allow researchers to better visualize the relationships between records in a fonds or collection and move between record descriptions.
The Catalogue now features a horizontal navigation element on the top of record description pages to display the hierarchical arrangement of the fonds.
Other improvements over previous navigation include:
Off-campus Library users who need to access an electronic resource through the Library website, Sofia discovery tool (McGill catalogue), or through the "McGill Library Full Text" links in Google Scholar, are asked to log in to EZProxy with a McGill username and password before accessing the resource.
Please note that听the McGill Library website will be updated on Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 8 am听to 4 pm. This maintenance work听may result in catalogue-related links to library content being temporarily unavailable. The links may be unavailable for approximately 15-60 minutes听during the morning hours of the update period.听

Sofia, McGill鈥檚 bilingual catalogue is evolving! As of July 14, you will be able to explore the new interface of Quebec university libraries鈥� discovery tool. This renewed interface is more user-friendly and offers several improvements:
- Redesigned ergonomics for smoother and more intuitive navigation
- New intelligent request processing feature that displays the document which is the easiest to access
- Search terms underlined in yellow
- Optimization of accessibility for the visually impaired
- New icon for the Chat service
McGill Library is partnering with the Bureau de coop茅ration interuniversitaire (BCI) and a coalition of 17 other Quebec universities to provide the Quebec scholarly community with access to three digital platforms. This includes a unified catalogue or听Library Shared Services Platform (SSP) that will provide access to more than 20 million documents across the 18 collections and is supported by OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (WorldCat).
We hope you like the听new My Account experience in WorldCat Discovery - it was developed with accessibility and responsive design in mind.听The new interface complies with WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines.
Similar to the former My Account page, library users will now see a list of checked out items, hold requests, and outstanding fees. The Checked Out tab now includes the exact date and time when an item is due as well as the ability to select multiple items to renew at once.
McGill Library will be performing a system update in WorldCat Discovery from Monday, June 15 to Friday, June 19. All Library users are asked to avoid using the 鈥淪ign In鈥� button or logging in to "My Account" from WorldCat Discovery during this period. Please note that this includes logins for the purpose of saving searches.

To use the browse option, access WorldCat Discovery, open the detailed view of the item record, and click 鈥淏rowse the Shelf鈥�.

On Monday, January 6, 2020, OverDrive will move to a more featuring visually cleaner access to subjects and 'collections'. No change will be required in the way you sign-in to your OverDrive account, or how you sign-out ebooks or audiobooks, and existing links in the catalogue or on guides will automatically redirect to the new interface. The Libby app will also become available to McGill users in parallel to the regular OverDrive app after this interface upgrade.
Call number browse is now available in WorldCat Discovery. You can now search for materials by call number.
Instructions:
- In the catalogue search box found on the Library's homepage, type in the call number search index (nu:) followed by the call number. For example: (see image).

Please note:
McGill Library has completed the upgrade to WorldCat Discovery. McGill鈥檚 single catalogue is now available . As a result of this single system implementation, the Classic Catalogue is听no longer be available. All materials in the Classic Catalogue are available in WorldCat Discovery.
To access your Library account, visit the McGill and click on the SIGN IN button located on the upper right using your McGill username and password.
As a final step in our migration to the Discovery catalogue, a verification of our library data will be run on physical items in our collection starting at the end of day on Thursday, May 2 and lasting until the early morning of Monday, May 6.
