A McGill Desautels case team made it to the finals at the Marshall International Case Competition (MICC) hosted by the University of Southern California (USC). This team of four BCom students, composed of Alexia Belisle, Frederick Dub茅 Fortier, Simon Hudson and Charlotte Lucas, placed top 6 out of 30 competing universities at this year鈥檚 competition which took聽place from聽February 12 to 17, 2013.
Desautels鈥 Bronfman building opened its doors to the unique and competitive world of the entertainment industry by hosting the first Entertainment Management Conference (EMC) from February 1st to 2nd.
鈥 The first day of the conference allowed the participants to learn about the different facets of the entertainment industry from some of the field鈥檚 most prestigious names. The keynote speakers included President and Co-Founder of Just for Laughs, Andy Nulman (BCom鈥83), and CEO and Founder of INK Entertainment, Charles Khabouth.
BCom students Jean Vianney Cordeiro, David Gao and Shirley Xu Wang recently won the KPMG鈥檚 Ace the Case Local Competition. On March 2, Jean Vianney, David, Shirley Xu and their team will represent the KPMG Montreal office at the 2013 National Ace the Case competition, via video conference. The winners of the National Competition will go on to represent Canada at the International level in Madrid, Spain in April.
MONTREAL - The ad agency brief was clear: Get more people shopping at a Montreal bicycle store. The creative talent came cheap: 30 marketing students working free-of-charge for two weeks. And after an evening of pitches to a panel of judges and the selection of winners, the end game now approaches: A $10,000 publicity campaign to be launched in April.
Desautels BCom students took three top 3 podiums at the聽25th edition of the Jeux du Commerce, hosted by HEC Montreal from January 4 to 6, 2013.
Over 1,200 students from 13 Eastern-Canadian universities attended this inter-university competition. In addition to competitions that applied academic knowledge to real-life situations, there were opportunities to network with students from different universities, and connect with members of the business community. Sports and social competitions were also part of the event.

鈥 The shoe business runs in the family. Bensadoun鈥檚 grandfather was a cobbler in Algeria, and his father had stores in Morocco. He grew up in Morocco and France before heading to the U.S. and then to McGill for his university education.
America is currently facing a crisis of leadership in business and in government. Yet at the same time 鈥 participation in leadership seminars and programs has never been higher. The leadership industry, with many of its roots in America, is now a $50 billion industry. If America is so good at developing leaders however, then why is America a mess? Both presidential candidates are impressive men but neither seems, at this point, to really rise to equal leaders of the past.

On Friday September 21, the IMA was successfully re-launched with the first annual International Management Networking Breakfast. The event was sponsored by RDA Capital and hosted in Bronfman building. With 43 people in attendance including students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the IMA executive team, it was an excellent start to accomplishing the IMA鈥檚 vision to build a strong community within the International Management program.
Students at the Desautels Faculty of Management will have access to state-of-the-art software used by financial professionals, thanks to a new agreement between the Faculty and Thomson Reuters.
Under the five-year pact, Thomson Reuters will provide software licenses for Eikon, its flagship financial-markets platform, and will supply training and support for the desktop system. The Eikon desktops give Desautels finance students and professors access to essential news, data, analytics and trading tools.
