A team of five McGill students secured second place at the International Youth Leadership Finance Summit, hosted by the Master of Finance program at the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University from January 11–14. The event brought together 27 teams from universities across the world, including Stanford University, Columbia University and the London School of Economics, to explore how sci-tech companies are empowered through innovation and finance.

McGill alumnus William Shatner (BCom’52) has been inducted into the Order of Canada, in recognition of his 60-year acting career and philanthropic work. Presented by Governor General Julie Payette, the Order of Canada is one of the nation’s highest civilian honours.
Desautels students have placed second in the Ted Rogers Ethical Leadership Case Competition at Ryerson University.
On November 15–16, BCom students Darren Elias, Camille Thomassin, Dixon Wong, and Isabel Maier travelled to Toronto with Professor Melissa Sonberg to participate in the national invite-only competition. The case focused on aligning personal and corporate values and the ethical dilemmas faced by managers trying to balance the two.
McGill alumnus Peter Mazoff (BCom’96) has been named as the new president and CEO of delivery service GOLO Mobile Inc. Mazoff, who most recently served 11 years as president of online lender Thinking Capital, brings to the role more than 20 years of leadership experience and a customer-driven approach that leads to strong growth.
BCom student Maxime Lakat, co-president of the student-led Desautels Sustainability Network, joins Corporate Knights to chronicle the network’s efforts in bringing sustainability to the forefront of their education. The award-winning network has taken a cross-disciplinary approach to sustainability, bringing students and industry leaders together for a sustainable business conference, with plans to publish a student handbook highlighting how students can get involved in their own institutions.

Public opinion is split over the LNG Québec project, which would build a liquefaction plant and marine terminal to transport goods on the Saguenay River. From the perspective of BCom student Chrystophe Simard, the economic windfall generated by LNG Québec will outweigh the environmental impact.
