Montreal-based historian Christopher Goscha, US-based historian Walter Scheidel and British historian Daniel Beer听are the three contenders for the international Cundill History Prize. 听听

Run by 香蕉视频, the Cundill History Prize rewards the best history writing in English. The jury of world-class historians and authors has chosen the finalists from a longlist spanning the globe and covering issues ranging from religion to race relations. The winner will be awarded US$75,000; the two runners-up receive US$10,000 each.

The discovery of a gravitational wave caused by the merger of two neutron stars, reported today by a collaboration of scientists from around the world, opens a new era in astronomy. It marks the first time that scientists have been able to observe a cosmic event with both light waves -- the basis of traditional astronomy -- and gravitational waves, the ripples in space-time predicted a century ago by Albert Einstein鈥檚 general theory of relativity.
