Life Sciences Library redesign and HVAC work
Last spring, consultations were conducted by our Faculty and McGill Library Services on the future of the Life Sciences Library. Students, residents, faculty and staff from our health sciences community were invited to provide initial input on how the Life Sciences Library space could be reconfigured based on current and future needs.
During the initial consultations, and through formal written submissions and emails, many expressed the need for more space for study, learning and research, among other things. The full report, recommendations and frequently asked questions about space, librarian support and the transfer of non-reserve print materials were made available at that time and remain accessible at: .
Next steps: Ongoing Consultation for Library Redesign
Based on the initial input received, we are now moving forward to prepare a preliminary redesign of the Life Sciences Library, which is now under the jurisdiction and care of the Faculty of Medicine. Our work is beginning in parallel with the McIntyre heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) project, which we hope will help consolidate timelines and reduce overall disruption to this space.
As we begin this phase, we encourage you to continue sharing your ideas via two channels:
- Stopping by the Life Sciences Library Redesign Whiteboard, available on the 3rd floor, and jotting down your recommendations, or
- Sending us an email at: lslredesign [dot] med [at] mcgill [dot] ca.
We look forward to providing updates on our dedicated web page as the redesign takes shape over the coming months: /medicine/about/libraries/redesign.

Questions?
We would like to highlight that while the HVAC contractors will be insulating the work zone in the McIntyre, we expect that there will be noise, and we apologize in advance for the inconvenience. The HVAC project is essential to replace the current installation on floors 1 through 6, which has surpassed its life span, and we look forward to a new, more efficient system to support our redesigned Life Sciences Library.
