Policy on Children

㽶Ƶ

Project description

Since 2016, together with the City of Montréal’s , this team led by CIRM has the mandate to conduct a participatory research project on the role that the municipal administration should play in meeting the needs of children on its territory. It gathers partners around children’s issues, particularly with regard to their safety, nutrition, education, culture, and play. The goal is to generate a space to think about possible actions that the City of Montréal can undertake, both directly and indirectly. This project brings together five axis leaders and two regular members (along with their respective teams) from four Montréal institutions.

In addition to Juan Torres (“Security and Accessibility of the Urban Environment” axis), Anna-Liise Aunio from Dawson College (“Healthy Diet and Food Security” axis), Jean-Marie Lafortune from UQAM and Suzanne Laberge from the University of Montréal (“Access to Culture, Sports, and Leisure” axis), Isabelle Archambault and Sarah Fraser from the University of Montréal (“Academic Perseverance and Educational Success among Young ѴDzԳٰé and Indigenous Youth” axis), and Sarah Dufour from the University of Montréal (“Families and Community” axis) contributed to this project. Pascal Brissette, Delphine Collin-éԲ (㽶Ƶ), Nik Luka, é󲹲 Gervais et Daniel Weinstock were also members of the Advisory Committee. The final report was written by Guillaume Bellehumeur (㽶Ƶ). Dissemination activities will be announced at a later stage.

In December 2021, the project’s Advisory Committee submitted its report. This report builds on the Politique de ’eԴڲԳ by the City of Montréal, which was made public in June 2016, and its five constituent axes. It presents the current state of things and avenues for future research on what concerns the role of the City for children. It also outlines recommendations, such as creating spaces that are conducive to play, facilitating the sharing of information and data on food security, a supra- and intra-borough support for academic perseverance offered by the City of Montréal, and reflecting on the cultural practices of youth.
