Leading the Way for Research in Cannabis: from Plants to People

On October 17th, 2018, Canada became the first G20 country to legalize cannabis for both recreational and medicinal purposes. For this reason, Canada is uniquely positioned to establish international precedents to inform on cannabis use and policy for countries around the world. Therefore, the mission of the McGill Research Centre for Cannabis is to offer a hub for integrated cannabis-related research activities- spanning agriculture/plant sciences, chemistry, biomedical and socioeconomics the outcomes of which will provide evidence based knowledge and greatly impact cannabis-related decisions/policies surrounding health, society and law.

Through this collaborative effort, the goals of the Centre will be to:

1) Conduct high-quality, cutting-edge research on cannabis;
2) Provide educational and training opportunities to develop highly-qualified personnel (HQP) in the areas that spans agriculture and plant sciences, medicinal/clinical applications and socioeconomic policy (for example through industry-led courses/sponsorships)
3) Offer knowledge translation and mobilization events on cannabis research and its impact on society

The McGill Research Centre for Cannabis has a multi-disciplinary research program comprised of three integrated, translational axes that work in concert to enhance our understanding of cannabis and its effects on the environment, the individual and society at large.
