Why did you decide to come to the Department of Bioresource Engineering at McGill?

I wanted to be in the Bioresource Eng. Dept. because here I could work on research projects that combined food science and engineering.

What is so special about your research project?

What makes my research project special is the use of microwave energy to develop fast and efficient processes for producing natural extracts.

How did you experience student life at Macdonald Campus?

I love the multicultural environment at Macdonald Campus; I have friends from around the world! The interactions with the other students and with the professors are enriching.

What are your plans for the future?

I love to work in the lab, therefore I will target Research & Development jobs.

Ramesh Murugesan

Why did you decide to come to the Department of Bioresource Engineering at McGill?

Department of Bioresource engineering at Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s contributions towards the food processing and agriculture related operations are enormous. The quality of researches cum research findings and their impact in the real world are really adorable. The world-class research facilities and supervision are the specialty of this department. That’s why I choose this department for my master studies.

What is so special about your research project?

Wild berries are having high antioxidants as compared to cultivated berry varieties. Unfortunately there are no enough researches to explore the nutritional functions of wild berries. My current research tries to explore one of wild berry’s nutritional properties and develop method to preserve its functional properties.

How did you experience student life at Macdonald Campus?

The student life in Macdonald campus is really great. I really like this campus because of calm and clean environment, which suit for studies and research. The library, computer centers and laboratories are really well equipped and adequate for the students. In the one word, Macdonald campus is eminent for its concern about student’s life.

What are your plans for the future?

I wish to pursue my carrier especially in nutraceutical research and development of new products.

Yanti Maslina Mohd

Why did you decide to come to the Department of Bioresource Engineering at McGill?

This department offers interesting and diverse research areas, and one of it them is nutraceutical study. I always dream of doing research in this area. Besides, Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, in general, has a very good reputation worldwide. Good responses on Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and this department that I obtained from my friends also help in making my decision. In addition, the Bioresource Engineering website is really informative and helpful.

What is so special about your research project?

I always dream to do something beneficial to mankind. Currently, I am working on extracting a nutraceutical compound that has anticancer effect using a new extraction system.

How did you experience student life at Macdonald Campus?

Student’s life here is great. I have the chance to mix with people all around the world. Besides exchanging academic knowledge, I get to know more about their culture. Ï㽶ÊÓƵ also provides us with good , state of art and sufficient facilities.

What are your plans for the future?

I am going to explore more things with the knowledge I gain from here and teach other people with it. Therefore the cycle of discovering knowledge continues.

Why did you decide to come to the Department of Bioresource Engineering at McGill?

Bioresource engineering is a vast field which includes the areas related to food, energy as well as other agricultural and recent technological aspects (such as biotechnological application). This interested me as I can increase the area of my studies and diversify it by considering and including the recent technological aspects.

What is so special about your research project?

My research project is having the potential to have a remarkable contribution in the nutraceutical industry which is having the potential of helping the people having diabetics.

How did you experience student life at Macdonald Campus?

It is good and gives me the atmosphere of fully concentrating in my study and research.

What are your plans for the future?

I would like to be in the field of food research in the future so that I can contribute potentially to the betterment of the food industry and human health as well as food habits.

Kartheek Anekella

Why did you decide to come to the Department of Bioresource Engineering at McGill?

The framework of the course is diverse.One can get exposed to every possible field tagged "bio". I chose to be a food technologist aiming at developing functional foods and novel food processing techniques for which Dept of Bioresource engineering is the apt place.

What is so special about your research project?

My research project aims at developing health foods which are affordable even by a common man.

How did you experience student life at Macdonald Campus?

Just one word "AWESOME"

What are your plans for the future?

I plan to explore more about food technology during the process of which I might study more as well as gain sufficient industrial exposure.
