African Studies

Overview

In the African Studies program, you can develop a deeper understanding of the African continent and its peoples, from the history, religions and cultures of different regions, to contemporary postcolonial literature, issues in health and economic development. These interdisciplinary courses can lead to a Minor or Major Concentration.

Established in 1969, the program was the first of its kind in Canada. You will gain an appreciation for the contributions that Africans have made to world culture and civilization, and an awareness of the factors affecting this continent's current struggle to achieve development.
