Overview
Jewish Studies : Exploration of environmental issues as reflected in literature from the Bible to the present. Biblical reverence for life and for Nature, and the emphasis on justice, underly much literature on the environment, both religious and secular. As modern science, technology and medicine gave human beings increasing control over the environment, the harmful consequences and accompanying moral questions became major concerns, and is reflected in literature, including Blake, Dickens, Gaskell, Mendele, Ibsen, Bialik, and Chekhov.
