Post Graduate Travel Awards are designated to students that have graduated from McGill but are now pursuing their PhD at another Canadian institution. Typically, these awards are used to cover the tuition costs at their current institution.
Award processors may process these awards in Banner Student Aid (BSA) with the following criteria:
- Student must have graduated from McGill.
- Student must be registered in a PhD program at another Canadian Institution.Â
Note: The onus is upon the awarding department to ensure the student meets this criteria by obtaining proof of enrollment.
The award processor:
- enters the award in BSA.
- must use the comments field to inform the Central Aid Office that this is related to a Post Graduate Travelling Award, to avoid delays.
The Central Aid Office will use the comments fields as departmental approval and override the system eligibility in order to process the award without further delays.
Students eligible for a Post Graduate Travel Awards that are not registered in a Canadian institution are:
- entitled to receive the award.
- not processed through BSA.
- processed via Accounts Payable as a Payment Request.Â
Note: Some American institutions will setup the student through their own Sponsor billing process and invoice McGill for the award amount to cover their tuition costs. The onus is upon the awarding department to arrange the billing from the non-Canadian institution.
