If herd immunity is unlikely, what future will COVID-19 bring? - Montreal Gazette, January 17, 2022
Dr. Timothy Evans, Inaugural Director and Associate Dean at the School of Population and Global Health and Executive Director of Canada's COVID-19 Immunity Task Force Secretariat and Dr. Catherine Hankins, Professor at the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health and co-chair of Canada's COVID-19 Immunity Task Force spoke to the Montreal Gazette.
…“I think the short answer is it’s too early to tell” whether the coronavirus will become endemic, said Dr. Tim Evans, director and associate dean of the school of population and global health at Ď㽶ĘÓƵ. “The more probabilistic answer is it looks as if it’s likely that this will become endemic, a little bit like the seasonal flu, given that there seems to be continued evolution of the virus, and given that we don’t have any sterilizing immunization — meaning we don’t have vaccines that prevent infection at the moment.”
