Safety around construction sites
Published: 5 September 2024
As construction activities continue on McGill campuses and surrounding areas, here are a few safety instructions and tips:
- Observe all signs and safety perimeters established around construction sites and hoisting areas.
- Pay attention when walking, running or cycling near a construction zone.
- If you are cycling, you may want to dismount and walk your bike when near a construction zone.
- When using headphones while walking, running or cycling near a construction site, use only one earbud so you can hear and be alert to your surroundings.
- Try to avoid walking or running while sending texts, answering emails, or using your smartphone. Pay close attention to your surroundings and other road users.
- Observe walkways and crosswalks near construction sites.
- Always follow directives from security agents and construction workers. Their goal is to keep you safe.
- You may want to give yourself more time to get around campus as there may be unexpected detours. Be prepared to use alternate routes and entry doors to get to your destination.
