Bio

Professor Elisabeth Urtnowski joined the School of Social Work as a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience to draw from as an Associate Professor in 1973 and retired in 1999. She obtained her M.S.W. from Columbia University, New York.

Professor Urtnowski made her mark at the School of Social Work with the McGill Certificate in Northern Social Work Practice as a curriculum developer. The certificate was created with the aim of facilitating the delivery of a community-based program of social work courses to Inuit community workers in the 14 Inuit communities of Artic-Quebec, funded by the Ministère de 'Enseignement Supérieur et de la Science. She continued to make important contribution towards related causes through her membership on the McGill Working Group on Aboriginal Partnerships with the McGill House for First Peoples Studies and Research. She has also been a board member, Vice President and Treasurer of the Notre-Dame de Grâce Community Council.
