Ms. Burger works with the SCSD faculty to maximize the quality of clinical training in the School, through direct student supervision, classroom teaching, and related forms of departmental service. As Clinical Education Associate, she plays a leading role in creating opportunities that respond to current and future challenges in professional education in the School (e.g., new training projects, simulation activities, etc.). She actively collaborates with the Coordinators of Clinical Education to align projects and training with the program's needs and represents the School in the Faculty of Medicine and broader community.
Mariska graduated in 1999 in the Netherlands. After having worked for five years in a special needs daycare in Germany, she moved to Québec in 2004. She worked in the private sector for several years before switching to the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board, servicing schools in the Laval, Lanaudière and Laurentians region. Throughout her career, Mariska mainly worked with a pediatric population, specifically children with higher needs in the area of communication. She has supervised many McGill students since she started working in Québec and received the Award of Excellence in Clinical Education in 2015. She joined the SCSD in the Fall of 2017.
Her specific interests lie in the areas of Alternative and Augmentative Communication, Autism and Social Communication Disorders.
