Learn about freshwater resources around the world and recently-identified emerging issues for Canadian inland waters. Many areas of the world that are already experiencing a shortage of water resources and desertification have responded with innovative urban planning approaches. Here at home, we are stewards of a significant fraction of the world鈥檚 freshwaters and yet we still face important challenges regarding the multiple stressors placed on inland water ecosystems, as well as have large gaps in our knowledge. What will happen as water is commodified and becomes a powerful bargaining tool in global trading?
