Cutting Edge Lectures in Science: How studying birdsongs can help us understand how humans speak

Thursday, April 14, 2022 18:00to19:00
Jon Sakata

with Jon Sakata, Associate Professor, Dept. of Biology

Assoc. Prof. Sakata has spent many years researching the shared mechanisms of social communication between animal systems and humans through the role of shared mechanisms and chemicals. Through his research he has learned about how birds produce their songs in a similar manner to how humans learn to speak. This talk will dive into the parallels of human and songbird communication and how there are many similarities even though birds and humans are distantly related to each other.

The event will be facilitated by ambassadors Katelyn Law, Annie Li and Samantha Gorle.
